Quad Cities event has raised over $400,000 for humanitarian needs during nine-year history

BETTENDORF, IA - Organizers of the Quad Cities Night to Honor Israel today announced plans for their 10th annual celebration. Set for Thursday, Oct. 17th at 7:00 PM (with a pre-show musical performance at 6:30 PM), Calvary Church of the Quad Cities (4700 53rd St., Moline, IL) hosts the evening of singing, dancing and praise to honor the importance of Israel. There is no charge, but a free will offering will be made.

This year's keynote speaker is Diana Hagee. She is the wife of Pastor John Hagee, founder and senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio Texas. The author of a best-selling book, "The King's Daughter," Mrs. Hagee is the founder of the King's Daughter, Becoming a Woman of God National Conferences. She was presented the prestigious Lion of Judah award by the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston for the long-standing work she and Pastor Hagee do within Israel and currently works with Christians United for Israel, which was founded by her husband in 2006.

A free will offering this year will be used to bomb-proof the pre-school at Kibbutz Nahal Oz (http://eng.negev-net.org.il/htmls/article.aspx?C2004=12747) against missile attacks from Gaza only 700 yards away. In addition, funding will be directed toward medical equipment and supplies for Magen David Adom in Israel (www.mdais.com) ambulances in Sderot located one mile from Gaza.

During the previous nine years of the Quad Cities Night to Honor Israel, the event has generated $421,000 for Jewish immigration, underground hospital emergency rooms and computer labs for immigrant children to learn Hebrew and basic life skills in addition to other humanitarian causes.

Other speakers will include Roey Gilad, Consul General of Israel to the Midwest, and two Augustana College students who will share their experiences from the Christians United for Israel meeting this past summer in Washington, D.C. The special pre-show at 6:30 PM will feature the Java Jews and their "highly-caffeinated" klezmer music from Des Moines, IA.

"In this 10th year of our remarkable journey we are pleased to bring together Jews, Christians, Pastors, and Rabbis for one common purpose which is to speak up and stand up for Israel," said Tom McGovern, Chairman of the event and Iowa State Director of Christians United for Israel. "We hope the Quad Cities region will join us again for an unforgettable night of praising, singing, dancing, celebrating and giving."

Quad Cities Night to Honor Israel (www.qcnthi.com) is a non-conversionary tribute to the nation of Israel and the Jewish people of the world. Its purpose is to promote respect and understanding between Christians and Jews to emphasize that the beliefs held in common are far greater than the differences that separate.

It is organized by the Quad Cities Association of Evangelicals (www.qcae.org) and by the Iowa State Chapter of the Christians United for Israel (www.cufi.org).

Rock Island, IL-Domestic violence is a pervasive problem in our community. It is a silent predator that affects one out of every four women and, typically, impacts several generations of family members. In recognition of national domestic violence awareness this month, Christian Care is hosting Walk the Walk this Saturday, October 5, located at Prospect Park in Moline. The walk is from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with registration starting at 9:00 a.m. Take a stand against domestic violence: join Christian Care and Diamonds on the Avenue by participating in this year's Walk the Walk.

Before beginning the walk, participants will hear the compelling story of how a grandmother lost her granddaughter to domestic violence. Afterwards, they will enjoy a performance by Healing Waters Empowerment Project. Participants will receive a race bag, walk pedometer, and several other goodies. The event also features a silent auction and activities for children. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go directly back into the programs and services that Christian Care offers to so many in the Quad Cities community. Please do not forget that every dollar donated makes a difference, registration is only $10.00. 98% of the women who complete Christian Care's holistic programs go on to live independent lives, free of their abusers.

Christian Care's services are available in the Quad Cities to a growing number of homeless men and abused women and children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Through their two facilities?a domestic violence shelter for abused women and children and a rescue mission for homeless men?they provide safe shelter, nutritious meals, clothing, counseling, referrals and guidance to anyone in need. They serve homeless individuals, victims of domestic violence, veterans, men and women coming out of prison, and the mentally ill. Their vision is to transform the lives of those they serve by providing their residents with an opportunity to start a new, more productive life. Le Claire, Iowa, September 30, 2013 - Mississippi River Distilling Company is welcoming the flavors of fall back with their release of Iowa Coffee Company Liqueur on October 4, 2013.  This is the third year for this popular fall seasonal spirit.

Iowa Coffee Company Liqueur is another great collaboration between two Iowa businesses.  MRDC takes hand roasted Peruvian blend coffee beans from Iowa Coffee Company, a Des Moines area small business, and infuses it into River Pilot Vodka.  Along the process, fresh cinnamon sticks and vanilla beans are added.  This has become a great fall tradition enjoyed around the state!

MRDC welcomes everyone to come out this Friday, October 4, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. for First Friday and a taste of this great spirit and much more!  While supplies last, everyone who purchases a bottle of MRDC spirits will receive a free coffee mug that says, "Move over coffee.  This is a job for alcohol."  The cocktails featured in the tasting room include Cider and Rye, which uses Cody Road Rye Whiskey, apple cider, a splash of fresh squeezed lemon juice, maple syrup and a dash of sage.  This recipe also works great with either River Pilot Vodka or River Baron Artisan Spirit.  The second cocktail, the Java Pumpkin, showcases Iowa Coffee Company liqueur.  It's a combination of Iowa Coffee Company Liqueur, River Pilot Vodka, pumpkin liqueur, milk and a dash of nutmeg.  Chef Steph will be handing out samples of coffee marinated steak and coffee latte cake, both made with Iowa Coffee Company Liqueur.

The rest of Le Claire will be busy too with wine samples and live music at Wide River Winery, live music at Faithful Pilot, booze cake at Razzleberries, red velvet cupcakes at Aunt Hattie's, along with other shops staying open late.

Mississippi River Distilling Company is open from 10 AM to 5 PM Monday through Saturday and from 12 to 5 PM Sundays.  Free tours are offered to the public daily on the hour from 12 to 4 PM or by appointment.  The tour takes visitors through the entire distilling process.  Tours end in the Grand Tasting Room with free samples of products for those patrons over 21 years of age.

"Celebrate the Holidays," a Christmas Variety show featuring some of the area's finest performers will be presented by the Davenport Chordbuster Barbershop Chorus.

Heritage Church in Rock Island and Ascentra Credit Union joined the effort.

The variety show will be held on December 6th at Heritage Church, 4801-44th Street, Rock Island, Illinois. Show time is at 7:00 PM. This event is free, but an offering will be taken with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Churches United Food Pantries. For more information, please go to www.thecordbusters.com.

(DAVENPORT, Iowa) - Family Resources third annual Honor the Women program will feature a presentation from sexual violence prevention activist and National Story Slam Champion, Nancy Donoval, on Friday, Oct. 11, at the Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf. Proceeds from the luncheon help support the Family Resources Rape/Sexual Assault Counseling & Advocacy Program.

Donoval was 19 and a freshman in college when she was raped by a trusted friend after what started out as a night of fun and drinking. Now, more than 30 years later, Donoval travels the country, combining her experience as a rape survivor with her gift of storytelling to educate and engage others in open conversation about sexual violence in order to reduce the stigma of rape, inspire hope in survivors and their loved ones, and motivate social change.

"After every program, people come up and tell me their stories," said Donoval. "Sometimes I'm the first person they've told. And not just survivors, I hear stories from friends and family members, too. The fact is we all know someone who is a survivor whether we know we do or not," she said.

Nearly one in five women and one in 71 men reported experiencing rape at some time in their lives, according to a survey from the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. In a study of undergraduate women published in the Journal of American College Health, 19 percent have experienced attempted or completed sexual assault since entering college.

Donoval, who holds a master's degree in fine arts, was awarded the title of National Story Slam Champion in 2010 for an excerpt from her one-woman show "The Road to Shameless: A Survivor's True Story of Rape and Recovery." During her visit to the Quad Cities, high school and college students will have the opportunity to see the entire show free on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. at Augustana College's Wallenberg Auditorium in Rock Island. Tickets for the Oct. 10 performance are available at area colleges and high schools. Parents are welcome to accompany students.

Tickets for the Honor the Women luncheon on Oct. 11 are $30.  Doors open at 11 a.m. for a silent auction and social hour. Lunch and the presentation begin at noon. To register, visit famres.org, click on Details under Events, and find the registration at the bottom of the page.

Presenting sponsors for the luncheon are: Unity Point Health - Trinity, Quad Cities Investment Group, Northwest Bank & Trust, and Western Illinois University - Quad Cities. Honor sponsors are Sue Quail and Eastern Iowa Community College.
