The Quad Cities Cruisers, the Premiere Local Car Enthusiast Club, will celebrate their 31st Year in a row of hosting their annual Open Run Car Show for Charity.  This year's event is at the JC Penney Parking Lot of South Park Mall, Moline, IL, from 4p-9p.  This year's charities that the Quad Cities Cruisers are working for are:  ARROWHEAD RANCH, VIETNAM VETERANS Chapter 299, and QC CRIMESTOPPERS.

Come see hundreds of classic cars, hot rods and specialty vehicles at this event!!!  There will be lots of Vendors as well!

Admission for spectators is FREE.

The Entry Fee per Car is $15.00.  This is a participant judged event.  The TOP 100 Vote getters will receive a special QUAD CITIES CRUISERS OPEN RUN XXXI Commemorative Plaque.

Dave Palmer of 3D SOUND will be providing the night's music spanning decades of great tunes!

There will be a chance for spectators to vote for their favorite car in the "People's Choice" Category.

The Quad Cities Cruisers is over 90 Household Members Strong!  The Quad Cities Cruisers originated in 1981.  Over the past 32 years the Quad Cities Cruisers have donated thousands upon thousands of dollars to worthwhile and deserving local charities.

Get tickets for the 2013 Mississippi Valley Blues Festival in advance and save some money!  Tickets for the three-day event, July 4-6 at Davenport's LeClaire Park, are $20 per day at the gate.  But through June 30, you can get advance tickets for $15.50 per day at Hy-Vee stores in the Quad Cities, Clinton, and Muscatine.

And, for the first time ever, advance tickets will be available online ($15 plus a service fee), through PayPal at the MVBS website:  www.mvbs.org.  Just go to the Festival tab.

Advance $15 tickets are also available at The Muddy Waters in Bettendorf, Rascals in Moline, Martini's on the Rock in Rock Island, and at the Blues Society office in Davenport (call first: 563-32-BLUES).

Rock Island Library teen reading programs and free events are following the "Beneath the Surface" summer reading theme, so there's plenty of treasure hunting, zombies and even a little "cake archeology" to dig into for teens ages 12 to 18.
The teen program officially kicks off Friday, June 7 with a free "Teen Feature," which includes a classic movie, free popcorn, and the chance to both pick up the teen reading bingo card entry and cross off a square for attending a teen library program. The event takes place from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm at the Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th Street, Rock Island.  Additional free events for teens this month include a:
  • Library Treasure Hunt from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Thursday, June 13 at the Main Library, 401 19th Street. Teens will follow a trail of clues to uncover treasure and win prizes.
  • Teen Iron Chef contest from 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, June 18 at the Southwest Branch, 9010 Ridgewood Road, Rock Island. Working with a stack of ingredients, teens will whip up a culinary masterpiece to become the library's next prize-winning chef.
  • Teen Gaming Night from 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Thursday, June 20 at the Main Library, 401 19th Street. Teens can play Xbox 360 with Kinect, Wii and board games.
  • Zombie Night, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Thursday, June 27, at the Main Library, 401 19th St. Dig into your chance to survive the zombie invasion by learning how to create a Zombie Preparedness Plan, apply zombie make-up for either camouflage or fun and enjoy a classic zombie movie and snacks.
·         Cake Archeology program, from noon to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, July 2 at the Southwest Branch. Archeology is in layers, and so are cakes! Teens will learn some simple cake decorating techniques and build their own creations.
All teen events are for ages 12 to 18 and are free.

The 29th annual Mississippi Valley Blues Festival is coming up July 4 through 6 at Davenport's LeClaire Park.  Volunteers are still needed for all shifts July 3 through 7, including admission gate, beer tent, set up and tear down, and backstage hospitality.  Over 200 volunteers are needed.

Volunteers receive free admission to the Blues Festival as well as a souvenir festival t-shirt.  Priority is given to Mississippi Valley Blues Society members.  "Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Blues Festival," says Patty Britt, volunteer coordinator.  "The Mississippi Valley Blues Festival is the only major blues festival in the nation that's produced by a volunteer organization, the MVBS.  We rely on volunteers to help with all aspects of the festival."

Keith Bonnstetter is coming back to the Center For Active Seniors, Inc. (CASI) for a snowflake cutting class. Keith has been featured on the Martha Stewart show for his elaborate snowflake cutting skills.

The free Have Book Will Travel presentation features travel agent Marsha Holmes from Gulliver's Travel Agency. She will provide guidelines for planning a trip, whether that journey involves driving or flying, or to destinations in the USA or overseas. Participants are encouraged to bring travel questions.

In other June programs for adults, the Rock Island Library will offer historic tours of Chippiannock and Riverside Cemeteries with local cemetery expert Minda Powers-Douglas. The Chippiannock tour meets at the cemetery's 12th Avenue gate at 7:00 pm on Monday, June 10.  The Riverside tour meets at 7:00 pm on Monday, June 17, at the cemetery's 5th Avenue gate. Both tours are free and open to the public, and will feature highlights of the art and stories behind two of the area's oldest cemeteries. Registration is requested, but not required for the tours. The Rock Island Library will also show free "movie flicks" featuring films based on books during the summer. The first movie, based on the novel  Jaws, by Peter Benchley, starts at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, June 18 in the Main Library, 401 19th Street. Free popcorn will be provided.
