From July 14 through September 9, new works by a prominent Iowa City artist will be on display in the Figge Art Museum's Laurel Farrin: No Particular Order, a collection of abstract, geometric, and frequently humorous images by a talent widely praised in publications including the Washington Post, the Baltimore Sun, and Time Out NY.

Paintings, sculptures, and works by a prominent Quad Cities gallery owner will all be on display at the Quad City International Airport July 3 through August 29, as Quad City Arts presents a trio of new exhibitions by Des Moines painter Robert Reeves, sculptor Matt Moyer from Columbia, Missouri, and Bettendorf's Pat Beréskin, owner and operator of the city's Beréskin Gallery & Art Academy.

Seven rare prints by one of Mexico's most accomplished and lauded painters will be on display at the Figge Art Museum July 7 through December 30, when the Rufino Tamayo exhibit showcases the talents of its namesake who received the 1985 Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts of Spain and the 1988 Belisario Dominguez Medal of Honor awarded to Tamayo by the Mexican Senate.

Scultpures and paintings by Iowa- and Illinois-based talents will fill the Quad City Arts Center from June 29 through August 17, as the Rock Island venue houses Dean Kugler's Relics and Erik Ohrn's Momentarily Present – exhibitions boasting works by two gifted artists who use figuration to communicate ideas about psychology, internal states of being, and the solitary nature of existence.

Paintings and watercolors of richly beautiful nature images – and images found very close to home – will be on local display June 23 through July 26, as the Beréskin Gallery & Art Academy houses the recent works of a Fairfield, Iowa, artist in John Preston: Day by Day.

A longtime District of Rock Island tradition will morph into a hopeful new one on June 15 and 16, as MidCoast Fine Arts' Gallery Hop! turns into the new weekend celebration Rock the Arts, organized by MidCoast, Quad City Arts, Desoto, and the Quad City Woodturners.

On display from June 9 through September 16, the Figge Art Museum's new exhibit Alois Kronschlaeger: Polychromatic Contemplations will acquaint visitors with the talents of one of America's most prolific artists, a native Austrian whose work, as he states, “deals with space, light, color, how you intervene and activate a space, and how a space can be a combination of both interior and exterior.”

Familiar characters, objects, and themes will blend in a completely out-of-this-world way when the Figge Art Museum, from June 9 through September 2, houses the exhibition Steve Banks: Pop Culture Palimpsest, a comprehensive installation by the Quad Cities artist. As is stated on the Figge Web site: “Like an archaeologist digging through layers of pop-culture ash, Banks uncovers iconic examples of high and low art which he then rearranges and re-covers in complex and entertaining constructions.”

Artworks boasting the strange, the familiar, and the strangely familiar will be on display at Rock Island's Quad City Arts Center May 11 through June 22, with illustrative imagery and bright colors employed to communicate ideas about objects, environments, and concepts in the charming, humorous exhibits Karmageddon, featuring mixed media by David Balluff, and News Anchors with Nabisco, showcasing paintings by Greg Dickinson.

Things are about to get capitalized and italicized Wild at the Figge Art Museum, as the Davenport venue, from May 12 through August 12, will house the traveling Where the Wild Things Are Maurice Sendak: The Memorial Exhibition – 50 Years, 50 Works, 50 Reasons, a showcase for one of America's premiere illustrators and characters from one of the world's best-loved children's books.
