The events of September 11 have left an indelible mark on American and world history, and certainly on the lives of the victims.

DES MOINES, IOWA (September 10, 2019) — Governor Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, in honor of Patriot Day and in memory of those who lost their lives in the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be half-staff on all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state.

LENEXA, KANSAS (September 10, 2019) — HyVee, a Des Moines-based supermarket chain, was recognized with three awards by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for their achievements in protecting the environment through noteworthy refrigerant-management. HyVee received a “Superior Goal Achievement” award for voluntarily setting and achieving their challenging corporate goal for reducing refrigerant-emissions.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (September 10, 2019) — On Thursday, September 12, at 9AM, the Scott County Sheriff's Office will hold two recognitions in the Sheriff’s Office conference room on the second floor of the Scott County Courthouse. Corrections Officer Tamara Riojas will be presented with a Life-Saving Award and Nick Aleksiejczyk will be promoted to Jail Sergeant.

DES MOINES, IOWA (September 10, 2019) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate kicked off a new voter-registration initiative Tuesday aimed at Iowa high-school students. Every school in Iowa that registers at least 90-percent of their eligible students to vote will receive the Carrie Chapman Catt Award, named after the Iowan who was a national leader in the women’s-suffrage movement.

WASHINGTON DC (September 10, 2019) — Representative Dave Loebsack announced today that the Wapello Volunteer Fire Department received a $142,967.61 grant from the US Department of Homeland Security as part of their Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. The Wapello Volunteer Fire Department will use these funds to purchase air packs.

PELLA, IOWA (September 10, 2019) — Central College today introduced a new annual tuition of $18,600 for Fall 2020.

In addition, the college has launched a number of new initiatives to support students in all stages of their education and beyond graduation.

DES MOINES, IOWA (September 10, 2019) — Heartland Simmentals of New Hampton took home the Grand Champion Percentage Bull banner in the Simmental Cattle show judged at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Reck Brothers N Sons of Blakesburg took home the Grand Champion Purebred Bull and Champion Iowa Bull at the Iowa State Fair.
