Courage Ride, a bicycle ride that raises funds for sarcoma cancer research, presented a check for $70,000 to the University of Iowa’s Sarcoma Research Program during an October 24 ceremony at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Ben Miller, Dr. Munir Tanas and Dr. Varun Monga, accepted the check on behalf of the center’s Sarcoma Cancer Research Program.  

West Music is offering a whole new Black Friday experience for customers, providing free live music by well-known area artists and refreshments at each West Music store between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 23rd.

This holiday season, many Iowans will buy and give gift cards. State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald wants Iowa consumers to make sure they take full advantage of their gift cards. "Year in and year out, gift cards are continually the most requested presents during the holiday season," said Fitzgerald. "Each year, gift cards go unused because the cards are lost or forgotten.

Thanks to the combined efforts of the St. Ambrose University Occupational Therapy and Physician’s Assistant students and faculty, as well as the staff and volunteers at Spring Forward, more than 50 adults and children from all walks of life will share a meal and celebrate diversity.  The traditional Thanksgiving feast is being held on Thursday, November 15th at 6:00 pm at the Church of Peace in Rock Island. 

Survivors of Homicide Victims Awareness month will be observed from November 20, 2018 – December 20, 2018.

AAA projects 54.3 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more away from home this Thanksgiving, a 4.8 percent increase over last year. The 2018 holiday weekend will see the highest Thanksgiving travel volume in more than a dozen years (since 2005), with 2.5 million more people taking to the nation’s roads, skies, rails and waterways compared with last year.

The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage and urgently needs blood donors to give now to avoid delays in lifesaving medical care for patients. Volunteer blood drive hosts are also critically needed to prevent the shortage from worsening this winter.

Jason Vieaux, a highly praised classical guitarist with accomplishments ranging from symphony soloist to a Grammy Award winner, will provide outreach engagements in Quad City schools and community sites from Nov. 26 through Dec. 7, with a solo recital in Davenport on Dec. 8.
