STEM Council expects to impact more than 86,000 Iowa students in 2017-2018

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Pesticide Safety Education Program will be offering a “Last Chance” Private Pesticide Applicator Continuing Instruction Course (CIC) for private pesticide applicators on April 13 and 14, 2017, at county extension offices throughout the state.

A listing of the county offices offering this course can be found at www.extension.iastate.edu/PSEP/. The course will run for approximately two and a half hours.

AMES, Iowa – Planting small fruits in gardens is a popular part of spring. But some need more support than others. When is it right to fertilize small fruits? Or should it be done at all?

The event will take place at the Quad Cities Food Hub on Thursday April 13, 2017 at 7:00 PM. The Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GQCHCC) will host its eighth Annual Gala on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at the Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf. Maria Hinojosa, award-winning journalist and founder of Futuro Media Group, will keynote the event with a presentation titled, "Latinx on the frontlines: The canaries in the mine of due process denials." 

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley made the following statement regarding the vote to return to historical precedent to confirm Supreme Court nominees by a simple majority vote margin after Senate Democrats performed the first successful partisan filibuster of a Supreme Court nominee in the history of the United States.

WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) introduced legislation to support at-risk youth and those who enter the juvenile justice system.

Rock Island, IL: Beginning at noon April 6, the Rock Island Public Library 30/31 Branch will be closed for electrical service repairs.

A recent power surge revealed a wiring issue. The Library Board opted to close the branch temporarily to allow electricians to properly evaluate the severity of the issue, and fix what is necessary without interruption. Repairs could take up to a week or longer, depending on the severity of issues found.
