IOWA CITY, IOWA (August 23, 2022) — The Carver College of Medicine recently staged its annual Arnold P Gold Foundation White Coat Ceremony for first-year students beginning their medical education at the University of Iowa. The event welcomed the College's class of 2026 and it represented the first time these future physicians would recite the Oath of Hippocrates, calling attention to the importance of the doctor-patient relationship.

In her second season of running National Midget races, the fifteen-year-old from Clovis, California, wanted to win. And she did, in a big way, at Jacksonville Speedway with the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota, becoming the first women to see the checkered flag in a National Midget event.

However, that wasn’t the full extent of her goal.

Teams of volunteers will be visiting homes Wednesday, August 24. In addition to installing smoke alarms, volunteers will be providing fire safety information to residents.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 22, 2022) — Republican candidates won all six races in Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate’s State Fair Straw Poll. Conducted on iPads at the Secretary of State’s booth inside the Varied Industries Building, the poll gauged fairgoers’ support for candidates in Iowa’s US Senate, US House, and Governor’s races. It was held throughout the State Fair, August 11-21. More than 2,600 individuals cast votes.
