Twenty-seven years before she earned her doctorate, Kari Shimmin graduated from Monmouth College

MONMOUTH, ILLINOIS (January 23, 2025) A full 27 years after she walked across the Wallace Hall stage to receive her Monmouth College degree, Kari Shimmin ('97) earned another diploma.

Last May, Shimmin received her doctorate in educational leadership from Western Illinois University, completing a journey that started five years earlier.

DES MOINES, IOWA (January 23, 2025)  On Monday, February 3, Alzheimer’s Association advocates from across the state will gather at the Iowa State Capitol to ask their state legislators to support funding the Dementia Service Specialist program that will improve access to care and support services for families facing Alzheimer’s and dementia in all Iowa communities. CLIVE, IOWA (January 22, 2025) — Carroll County pig farmer Aaron Juergens has been named the new president of the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA). He assumed the role during the organization’s annual meeting in Des Moines on January 21. Juergens manages over 100,000 nursery and finishing pig spaces for Sunburst Valley Farms near Carroll.

WASHINGTON DC (January 22, 2025) — At the 2025 AAC&U Annual Meeting in Washington DC, new directors and officers were elected to the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U)’ board of directors. Jonathan R Alger, president of American University in Washington DC, will serve as chair of the board. Timothy K Eatman, inaugural dean of the honors living-learning community at Rutgers University–Newark, will serve as past chair.

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA (January 22, 2025) — Des Moines University (DMU) Medicine and Health Sciences appoints Beth Culross PhD RN GCNS-BC CHSE as the inaugural director of its new Des Moines University Regional Simulation Center at 3200 Grand. Culross, a nationally-recognized expert in simulation-based education and health-care training, will lead the development and operations of the simulation center, currently under construction and slated to open in late Fall 2025.
