The City of Rock Island’s Public Works Department will begin the Fire Hydrant Flushing Program on Monday, September 18, 2017, at 7:00 a.m. Crews will be flushing hydrants for approximately a four week period. The purpose of this program is to help maintain water quality standards and the fire protection system. Citizens may experience brief periods of discolored water or low pressure which is normal during flushing operations.

 Gov. Rauner lauds tireless advocacy for children, families

CHICAGO (Sept. 11, 2017) – Secretary of Education Dr. Beth Purvis will be leaving the Office of the Governor on Friday, Sept. 15. Dr. Purvis will be joining a national nonprofit organization where she will oversee educational philanthropy.

“Beth has been a tireless advocate for Illinois children and families,” Gov. Rauner said. “We are deeply grateful for her efforts.”

TOKYO (Sept. 10, 2017) – Governor Bruce Rauner arrived in Tokyo where he will start the first international trade mission of his administration. Shortly after his arrival, the governor attended the welcome reception at the Midwest U.S.-Japan Association Conference.

The following notice is from Public Works - Bridge Ave will be closed between Kirkwood Blvd and E 12th St beginning Tuesday, September 12th for resurfacing work. Staff anticipates work will be complete by Friday, October 20th depending on weather and subsurface conditions.

(DES MOINES) – Gov. Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday, Sept. 11, in honor of Patriot Day.

Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be half-staff on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state.

September 8, 2017 (Des Moines, IA) – Awards totaling $1.3 million were announced today for four communities across the state. The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) awarded Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to support community water and sewer infrastructure projects. 

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dave Loebsack will have a member of his staff in Clinton and Scott Counties for open office hours. Jared Mullendore, Loebsack’s District Representative, will be at the following locations. Mullendore will be on hand to work with individuals who are having difficulty with a government agency, have suggestions for Dave, or would just like to share their concerns. CHICAGO (Sept. 7, 2017) – Acting Secretary and State CIO Hardik Bhatt will be leaving the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) after leading the digital transformation in state government for more than two years. Hardik is returning to the private sector to lead smart cities and transportation technology business for a large multinational U.S. company.
