Quad City area schools, March-April, 2018 – Starting Monday, approximately 4,000 local students will wrap oak trees for the Living Lands & Waters (LL&W) MillionTrees Project (MTP). The traveling unit will be visiting area schools every weekday from March 26 to April 17 (see page 2 for full list of locations and dates) between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. (except where noted). Woodlands, wetlands and prairies native to the Midwest depend on periodic prescribed fires for long-term survival. Fire helps to rejuvenate growth of native grasses and flowers, and controls the growth of unwanted invasive plant species. 

After inspecting the site, acquiring permits and reviewing safety precautions with all involved, Illiniwek Forest Preserve will conduct multiple burns on the forest preserve property.

Volunteers needed to help spruce up our gateways during Davenport's Annual Corridor Cleanup, Saturday, March 24th, 8am to 11am. The cleanup is a great opportunity to greet spring, and to help protect our water resources by picking up materials that might otherwise be carried by wind or water to our local creeks and streams.

COAL VALLEY, Ill. (Feb. 8, 2018) – Niabi Zoo announced today the launch of a new series of lectures on conservation, ecology, biology and zoology. The series will continue throughout the year, and the first three lectures will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 and March 1 at the Niabi Zoo educational center.
