DES MOINES, IOWA (August 16, 2019) — Three talented Senior division acts (ages 13-21) have advanced to the Championship round in Bill Riley's 60th annual Iowa State Fair Talent Search. Each act will perform again on Sunday, August 18. Two Sprout acts were crowned champions.

JOHNSTON, IOWA (August 15, 2019) — IPTV Presents Conversations with Presidential Candidates Hosted by DMACC continues August 21 at 10:15AM at the Building 6 auditorium at DMACC's Ankeny campus with guest former Vice President Joe Biden. This Iowa Public Television series of presidential candidate forums is hosted in collaboration with Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC).

On August 12, the Trump administration announced new rules for immigrants seeking permanent-residence status (through issuance of a "green card")  in the United States. Those rules apply a longstanding prohibition on immigrants likely to become "public charges" (that is, dependent on government benefits) to applicants who have received certain of those government benefits — among them Medicaid, SNAP ("food stamps"), and housing assistance — for more than 12 months.

DES MOINES, IA (August 14, 2019) — Merry Welsch of Winfield won Best of Show and the Sweepstakes award in the Sewn and Other Items for the Home division of the Fabric and Threads contest that was judged prior to the start of the 2019 Iowa State Fair.
