Two exhibitions of beautiful, evocative, and occasionally comical black-and-white photographs byIowa artists are currently on display at the Quad City Arts Center, with the Rock Island venue, through October 8, treating patrons to the talents of Des Moines' Judith Eastborn and Bettendorf's Mike Leinhauser.

Lauded by Irish Music Magazine as an artist whose “range is stunning” and whose “interpretation is perfect,” Irish-born, Chicago-based tenor Paddy Homan will, from August 26 through 28, bring his acclaimed vocal skills to the area as one of the first guests in Quad City Arts' 2021-22 Visiting Artist Series, the popular crooner revered by Irish American News' Bill Margeson as “perhaps the best male Irish singer I've ever heard.”

Performing in anticipation of the September 17 and 18 Mississippi Valley Blues Festival in LeClaire Park, the genre-hopping talents of the Chicago Blues Angels will play a special outdoor concert in Davenport's Quinlan Court, the August 23 event sponsored by the Mississippi Valley Blues Society, and boasting the virtuosic talents of Windy City musicians Mondo Cortez and Jerry DeVivo.

An annual presentation of entertaining education sponsored by River Action, Nahant Marsh, and the Tony Singh Family Foundation, the QC Environmental Film Series kicks off its 2021 season with filmmakers Pete McBride's and Kevin Fedarko's Into the Canyon, a magnificently photographed journey through the Grand Canyon that will be screened at Davenport's Figge Art Museum on August 29.

Performing in support of their latest album Marigold a 2020 release praised by Uncut as a “vibrantly empathetic experience” of “mournful pedal steel, keening harmonies, and thumping analogue rhythms” – the indie rockers of Pinegrove play an August 31 concert at Rock Island's WAKE Brewing, an evening sure to demonstrate why Under the Radar magazine praised Marigold for boasting the band's “tightest recorded moments to date.”

Presented in conjunction with the theatre's current musical hit Saturday Night Fever, the August 26 concert event Bee Gees Gold Tribute invites audiences to boogie on over to Rock Island's Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse, where touring sensations John Acosta, Daryl Borges, and Jeff Celentano will recreate the look and sound of the brothers Gibb and unforgettable smash hits including “How Deep Is Your Love,” “Tragedy,” “You Should Be Dancing,” and the iconic “Stayin' Alive.”

With its core group of musicians all veterans of the band since the 1970s, Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons, Tom Johnston, and John McFee hit the TaxSlayer Center stage on August 28 with the eagerly awaited Doobie Brothers 50th-Anniversary Tour, a night with the legendary, chart-topping, Grammy-winning rockers and recent inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

A tribute to the compositions of jazz legend Fats Waller that received three Tony Awards including Best Musical, the musical revue Ain't Misbehavin' enjoys an August 19 through 29 engagement at Mt. Carroll's Timber Lake Playhouse, this exhilarating collection of classic songs described by the New York Times as a show that "moves with the zing and sparkle of a Waller recording filled with bright melodies and asides.”

Friends since the early 1960s, photographer Lee Friedlander and painter Jim Dine formed an early bond when Friedlander gave Dine a photograph he made on a trip to Cincinnati – not realizing Dine had been raised there. Since then, both artists have established long distinguished careers in photography and in painting, respectively, and through November 14, Figge Art Museum visitors are invited to see examples of their works paired in the fascinating new exhibition Jim Dine & Lee Friedlander: Work from the Same House.

Taking place in two cities, two states, and nearly 36 venues combined, the popular summertime traveling festival Alternating Currents returns to Davenport and Rock Island from August 19 through 21, a Quad Cities celebration of music, film, comedy, and visual arts boasting panel discussions, Q&A events, children's happenings, and more than 100 collective movies, comedians, and music acts.
