EAST MOLINE, ILLINOIS (January 7, 2020) — On Sunday, January 26, at 4PM, Churches United of the Quad City Area will celebrate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity by hosting an ecumenical service at First Presbyterian — East Moline, 777 25th Ave, East Moline. This event is free and open to the public. Major Jolinda Shelbourn will be speaking. Pastor Becky Sherwood, Reverend Donald Johnson, Minister Jay McGowan, and Rev Dr Melvin Grimes will also be participating.

WAVERLY, IOWA (January 7, 2020) — The Wartburg College Wind Ensemble has been selected to perform during the 2020 Iowa Bandmaster's Conference.

The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Craig Hancock, will perform Thursday, May 14, at 5PM, at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown. The band will play selections from its spring tour through the Midwest. The performance is free and open to the public.

MONMOUTH, ILLINOIS (January 7, 2020) — Bruce Haywood, the tenth president of Monmouth College who helped expand the College's endowment and lay a foundation for dramatic expansion in the 21st century, died at home in his sleep January 7. He was 94.

“Let us resolve that never again will we send the precious young blood of this country to die trying to prop up a corrupt military dictatorship abroad. This is also the time to turn away from excessive preoccupation overseas to the rebuilding of our own nation. America must be restored to a proper role in the world. But we can do that only through the recovery of confidence in ourselves…. together we will call America home to the ideals that nourished us from the beginning.
