(DES MOINES) – Today, Governor Terry Branstad and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds highlighted the importance of preparing for Iowa’s severe weather season.  The Governor and Lt. Governor were joined by Mark Schouten, Director of the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEMD).

Unexpected events, such as natural disasters or economic downturns impact margins, but also have an impact far beyond the farm. There is a human side to the economic stress. As Iowans deal with disruptions to their families and communities, these resources provide information to help you cope with those concerns.

North Scott 7th graders (240 students) are wrapping trees harvested by North Scott 8th graders last week at LL&W’s tree nursery in Davenport, IA. The 7th graders will be joined by many other volunteers over the course of the week to help LL&W prepare 110,000 trees for distribution this April across 16 states.  

Invasive species destroy native trees and disrupt natural habitat

DES MOINES, Iowa (March 28) - With the spread of invasive species, such as emerald ash borer and oriental bittersweet, Iowa's forest ecosystems are threatened, and Gov. Terry Branstad will sign a proclamation announcing the month of April as Invasive Species Awareness Month.

The Governor will sign the proclamation in his office on Wed., March 29 at 10 a.m.

(DES MOINES) – Governor Terry E. Branstad has proclaimed March 27-31, 2017, as Severe Weather Awareness Week in Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEMD) the National Weather Service (NWS) and local emergency management agencies have again joined together to promote severe weather awareness and family preparedness.

Greenhouse will be cornerstone for “Urban Gardening” initiative

On Saturday morning there was a new building put up at the First Baptist Church, 1401 Perry Street in Davenport. A greenhouse graces its grounds as part of an initiative between the PUNCH group, the US Department of Agriculture and the National Baptist Conference.
