2026 MFA Thesis Screening (not rated; FilmScene on the Ped Mall: Saturday, May 9, 1 p.m.) - ICFilmScene.org.

Animal Farm (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - Because we're given no sense of what, precisely, is being attacked and largely satirized, Andy Serkis' take on George Orwell's cautionary tale just comes off as deeply confused. IMDb listing.

Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard & Soft - The Tour Live (PG-13; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - IMDb listing.

Blue Heron (not rated; FilmScene at the Chauncey) - IMDb listing.

Candyman - 1992 (R; Voy 61 Drive In Theatre: Thursday, May 14) - IMDb listing.

Ciller Corn (not rated; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Saturday, May 9, 10 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Crazy Rich Asians (PG-13; Aledo Opera House: Thursday, May 14, 6 p.m.) - Iaddition to being a charming entertainment, this rom-com is unbridled pornography. Granted, it's luxury porn, and sometimes food porn, but a deliberate turn-on nonetheless. IMDb listing.

Deep Water (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - You don't necessarily care about anyone's fate, but the situations in Renny Harlin's survival thriller are so catastrophically grim, and so atypically well-staged, that with one spectacularly hateful exception, you don't want to see anyone perish, either. IMDb listing.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 (PG-13; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, The Last Picture House, Voy 61 Drive In Theatre, Blue Grass Drive-in, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - This sequel would have been plenty entertaining, or at least entertaining enough, had it merely been a light, funny exercise in getting the band back together. It's happily even more than that. IMDb listing.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (PG; Aledo Opera House: Friday, May 8, through Sunday, May 10) - This franchise closer is gorgeous, amusing, moderately touching, and agreeable as hell. It just isn't in any way interesting. IMDb listing.

Dream Big: Engineering Our World (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - IMDb listing.

The Editor (not rated; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Wednesday, May 13, 10 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Elepahnts: Giants of the Desert (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - IMDb listing.

Enhyphen: Immersion in Cinemas (not rated; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX: Wednesday, May 13, 6:45 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Erupcja (not rated; FilmScene at the Chauncey) - IMDb listing.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (R; The Last Picture House: Wednesday, May 13, 8:30 p.m.) - A movie to chew on for days - even weeks - after you see it, and it makes you want to return to the inner workings of Charlie Kaufman's brain over and over again. IMDb listing.

Flight of the Butterflies (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - A bit pokey, but the slow, unspeakably beautiful explosion that is the butterflies' mass exodus is enough to make you believe in God - or, at the very least, in the gods of nature docs. IMDb listing.

Fried Green Tomatoes: 35th Anniversary (PG-13; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema: Sunday, May 10, and Wednesday, May 13) - IMDb listing.

Godari Gattupaina (not rated; Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - IMDb listing.

A Great Awakening  (PG-13; VIP Cinemas) - IMDb listing.

Hokum (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Blue Grass Drive-in, FilmScene on the Ped Mall, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - The polar opposite of hokum, Damian McCarthy's latest is a strong, chilling work boasting startling imagery and a first-rate Adam Scott performance. IMDb listing.

Hoppers (PG; VIP Cinemas) - I did not expect this 105-minute charmer to be so unfailingly hilarious, nor for it to be Disney/Pixar's non-sequel high point since 2020's underrated Onward, or perhaps even 2015's Inside OutIMDb listing.

Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition (not rated; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX: Saturday, May 9) - IMDb listing.

Journey to Space (not rated; Putnam Museum & Sciemce Center) - Says narrator Patrick Stewart of the genial scientists on-screen, "It's all about getting the job done and having a little fun" - an apt description for this edu-doc itself. IMDb listing.

Labyrinth - 2026 (not rated; Sunday, May 10, 1:20 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Michael (PG-13; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Voy 61 Drive In Theatre, Blue Grass Drive-in, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - Jaafar Jackson and the concert scenes are, for the most part, genuinely thrilling, but when this Jackson bio-book moves off the stage, it's oftentimes painfully terrible. IMDb listing.

Moms' Night Out (PG; Aledo Opera House: Saturday, May 9, 6 p.m.) - The generally charming lead Sarah Drew is forced into unplayable scenes of shrieking apoplexy, and the family-friendly jokes, as they perhaps had to be, are resoundingly toothless. IMDb listing.

Mortal Kombat II (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, The Last Picture House, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - IMDb listing.

Mother Mary (R; FilmScene at the Chauncey) - IMDb listing.

National Parks Adventure (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - This expectedly gorgeous endeavor is also unexpectedly, even thrillingly, varied in presentation: sensationally informative, joyfully inspiring, and even laugh-out-loud funny. IMDb listing.

Neglected (R; VIP Cinemas) - IMDb listing.

Oceans (G; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - The movie's 85 minutes occasionally crawl by as deliberately as its sea-floor denizens, yet it's hard to be too disappointed by a film that provides so many extraordinary sights. IMDb listing.

Offside (PG; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Saturday, May 9, 4 p.m., and Thursday, May 14, 7 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Office Space (R; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Monday, May 11, 6:30 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Onda Nova (not rated; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Tuesday, May 12, 7 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Paddington 2 (PG; The Last Picture House Rooftop: Thursday, May 14, 8:30 p.m.) - Darned near everything about this sprightly, inventive, bighearted follow-up is magical. IMDb listing.

Project Hail Mary (PG-13; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Blue Grass Drive-in, FilmScene at the Chauncey, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - Phil Lord's and Christopher Miller's sci-fi outing is a lot of fun, but given its scenario, is the focus on humor, which at times lapses into pure shtick, more hindrance than help? IMDb listing.

The Sheep Detectives (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Blue Grass Drive-in, FilmScene at the Chauncey, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - IMDb listing.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Blue Grass Drive-in, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - Barring one repeated gag involving a slow-moving robot that appears air-lifted in from the Zootopia DMV, you'd be hard-pressed to find a single legitimate joke – and that's with Jack Black reprising his role  IMDb listing.

Superpower Dogs (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - Daniel Ferguson provides enough globe-trotting action for a James Bond flick, treating us to first-rate training footage and re-created missions in locales ranging from the Canadian Rockies to the Italian coast to a debris-strewn site near New York's Ground Zero. IMDb listing.

T. Rex (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - IMDb listing.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea (not rated; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX) - IMDb listing.

Top Gun40th Anniversary (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX: opens Wednesday, May 13) - To this day, this square, silly blockbuster features guilty pleasures galore, plus a few legitimate pleasures. IMDb listing.

Top Gun: Maverick (PG-13; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX; opens Wednesday, May 13) - Had the film and Tom Cruise actually embraced the star's human fallibility, this corny, retrograde, occasionally quite-entertaining outing might've really been something. IMDb listing.

Twin Peaks: The Return - Parts 15 & 16 (not rated; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Monday, May 11, 9 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Twister (PG-13; The Last Picture House Rooftop: Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9, 8:15 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Two Seasons, Two Strangers (not rated; FilmScene on the Ped Mall) - IMDb listing.

Volcanoes: The Fires of Creation (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - I might've left this edu-doc just as satisfied if it were a silent film, or at least one wholly free of words, given that the sights on display left me less fascinated than thunderstruck. IMDb listing.

Wild Rescue (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - IMDb listing.

The Wizard of Oz (G; VIP Cinemas: Saturday, May 9, 1 p.m., and Sunday, May 10, 1 & 7 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

WWE Backlash 2026 (not rated; VIP Cinemas: Saturday, May 9, 5 p.m.) - IMDb listing.
