ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (June 24, 2019) — In 2018, it was reported that approximately 550 people were experiencing homelessness each night in the Quad Cities. Christian Care, similar to other shelters, works hard to provide adequate shelter, but also consistently sees more people in need of help. In response to this problem, Christian Care is adding a new dorm to their facility which will include 6 new beds for homeless men in the community.

We recently found out that the city will be undertaking animal-control internally and a contract with King's Harvest is being negotiated to provide the shelter care.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (June 19, 2019) — For the fourth consecutive year, Churches United of the Quad City Area will partner with local grocery stores and businesses to build on the success of Thanksgiving in July, a community-wide, non-perishable food-drive. All food collected will go directly to the 26 food pantries and 3 hot meal sites operated by Churches United. The food drive to benefit the entire Quad City Area will be held Monday, July 1, through Wednesday, July 31.

IOWA FALLS, IOWA (June 18, 2019) — This week the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation kicked off their annual effort to Haul Out Hunger across rural Iowa. Iowa Select Farms employees will deliver more than 60,000 pounds of fresh, boneless pork-loins to 120 rural food-pantries. Along with the fresh protein, a new Foundation program called Henry's Heroes will bring basic childhood needs to the food pantries.

MOLINE, ILLINOIS (June 18, 2019) — The Quad City Storm presented the United Way of the Quad Cities with a check in the amount of $1000 Tuesday afternoon, continuing their commitment to giving back to the community that supports them. The funds were granted to the Storm to donate to a charity of their choice as part of the SPHL’s Wanda Amos award which recognizes a team, individual, or alumna for their outstanding work in the community.

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA (June 14, 2019) — Hy-Vee Inc, in conjunction with The Jel Sert Company, the American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO), and 10 children’s hospitals, announced a new partnership in seven cities throughout the Midwest to bring unlimited flavored ice-pops to hospitalized children. The partnership with Hy-Vee further expands Jel Sert and the ACCO’s “Take a Pop, Share a Smile” program for hospitalized children battling cancer and other illnesses.

MOLINE, ILLINOIS (June 14, 2019) — The local non-profit, Dress for Success, has been impacted by the recent flooding in downtown Davenport.  Due to the loss of almost half of their clothing stock, The Moline Foundation will be assisting in their “Staying Afloat Clothing Drive.”
