DAVENPORT (Sept. 4, 2018) — Putnam Explorers and Explorers Jr. workshops are returning again this year to the Putnam Museum and Science Center beginning September 8. Intended to highlight topics in a fun and interactive way for children in Pre-K* through 5th grade, workshops occur monthly to provide informal enrichment activities. From exploring oceans to astronaut training, there’s something for every young science lover.

Any season is a great time to shoot a photo of your favorite place in Iowa. Grab your camera, or phone, and enter Keep Iowa Beautiful’s 9th Photography Contest aimed at raising awareness of Iowa’s rural and urban beauty. This photo contest offers both amateur and experienced photographers an opportunity to tell Iowa’s story in a fun, engaging way during your favorite season.

Museum to host second rooftop concert on Saturday with help from RME

DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 8, 2018) — It isn’t every day a band takes to a rooftop in the Quad Cities to play a concert. It will happen for the second time with the return of the Putnam’s free rooftop concert on Saturday, May 12.

The museum will host musicians with the River Music Experience, honoring the memory of the late American rocker Tom Petty.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dave Loebsack announced today that a painting entitled “A Soldier’s Haunting” by Keokuk High School’s Kaylee Adams was selected to represent Iowa’s Second Congressional District in the 2018 Congressional Art Contest. The painting is from a photo that Kaylee's uncle took of himself while serving in Iraq. After returning home, he suffered from PTSD and took his own life. Kaylee made the painting for her father to honor her uncle.

Artists Heidi Brandt and Dee Schricker are joining forces with the Beréskin Gallery. Brandt and Schricker will be closing their Boho Chic Gallery in May. Brandt is moving to the Iowa City area and Schricker has decided to spend more time in her studio and exhibiting at area art fairs. Both hope to expand their sales to the Iowa City market. “We have grown so much as artists during our time at Bucktown.
