The Kris Lager Band at the Redstone Room -- January 17.

Praised by Bandwagon magazine for their “brilliant” sound “that few other modern-day bands can offer,” the blues talents of the Kris Lager Band return to Davenport's Redstone Room on January 17, with Grateful Web telling prospective concert-goers: “Be prepared to dance, clap, and sing along with a fun and interactive show laced with load-tested songs and contagious grooves.”

Following hugely successful Adler Theatre presentations of the first three Harry Potter movies with their iconic scores performed live, the talents of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra now set their sights, and their instruments, on Disney/Pixar's Oscar-winning smash Coco, with the adored animated film enjoying a soaring QCSO accompaniment for two performances on January 18.

Appearing in the ensemble's first performances as guests in Polyrhythms' Third Sunday Jazz Workshop and Matinée Series, Mike Conrad & the Iowa Jazz Composers Orchestra will take the stage at Davenport's Redstone Room on January 19, playing from a jazz repertoire comprised solely of works by gifted Iowa-based composers.

Lauded by Time Out New York for its “infectiously energetic 1960s tunes” and by The New Yorker for its “well-judged humor and elegant strokes of observation,” the Broadway-musical smash Jersey Boys hits Davenport's Adler Theatre on January 14 as the latest presentation in the Broadway at the Adler series – a jukebox revue that, according to Broadway World, “rousingly recreates the catchy songs, convoluted lives, and roller-coaster careers of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.”

Winner of six 2013 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Score for pop icon Cyndi Lauper, the high-kicking musical Kinky Boots enjoys its first long-running area engagement at Rock Island's Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse January 15 through March 14, the show called “cause for celebration” by Entertainment Weekly and, according to Time Out New York, “the very model of a modern major musical.”

With the new year comes a trio of new exhibitions at Moline's Quad City Arts International Airport Gallery, with three gifted Midwestern artists showcasing a variety of works from January 3 through March 3: landscape paintings by Emily Fitzpatrick, acrylic paintings by Kelly Schnell, and mixed-media fiber creations by Colleen Curry.

In a unique blend of sound art and public reading, the latest presentation in the Midwest Writing Center's Spectra series, Bradley/Clifton/Miller, will find noted writers Jon Miller and Brian Clifton collaborating with sound artist William Ellis Bradley to create a thrilling, multi-modal experience at Rock Island venue Rozz-Tox, the January 8 event also boasting readings by local authors Beth Roberts and Ryan Collins.

Accompanied by an entire repertoire of jazz standards and iconic pop hits, a 2005 graduate of Rock Island High School returns to the Quad Cities in The Matt Barber Experience, the January 9 concert event at Davenport's Grape Life Wine Store & Lounge that finds Barber and his touring musicians performing classics from the five albums he has recorded since 2007.

Praised by AllMusic.com for their “intriguing and quite effective blend of hard melodic rock with progressive rock tendencies and awesome vocal arrangements,” the musicians of the iconic rock ensemble Head East play a special concert at East Moline's the Rust Belt on January 10, performing more than a half-century after the band's formation and eight years after being inducted into the Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Music Association's Hall of Fame.

Sharing the evening's bill in the latest presentation in the River Music Experience's Guest List Series, the alternative-folk artists of Them Coulee Boys and Fireside Collective join forces for a Redstone Room concert on January 14, filling the Redstone Room with rousing songs from the musicians' most recent respective albums Die Happy and Life Between the Lines.
