Bettendorf, Iowa (January 31, 2019) — GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center will hold its annual celebration of acceptance at the 2019 “i have a Voice” Gala.

ROCK ISLAND, IL - The Quad Cities Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance) Committee announces a call for entries for the "Ida Kramer Children and the Holocaust Essay Contest" and the "Meyer and Frances Shnurman Holocaust Visual Arts Contest" which are open to all Quad City Area students in grades 7-12. The deadline for entries is February 1, 2019.

Both contests offer cash prizes as follows:

First Prize:      $500, with a $100 gift card to the teacher who provided guidance

Most Iowans think that the state was solidly pro-Union during the Civil War. After all, some 76,500 residents fought for the North. In reality, Iowa Democrats formed a spectrum of dissent. The majority of Democrats opposed abolishing slavery (and yet favored the Union war effort); the minority sympathized with the South. Out of this group, at least 60 Iowa residents served the Confederacy. This talk will focus on four or five of them.

Museum seeking volunteers for limited-run exhibit, which opens Jan. 26

The Putnam aims to ensure its incoming exhibit, “Race: Are We So Different?” is fully utilized as a springboard to conversation and deeper understanding of equity and inclusion during its four-month run in our community.

A Community Team is working with the Putnam to best achieve this goal. It includes volunteer leaders from business; education; chamber; government; and not-for-profits.

The Christmas tradition of “Julotta” continues at Bishop Hill State Historic Site, where the public is invited to gather for a nondenominational church service at 6:00 a.m. on Christmas morning, Tuesday, December 25.

Creativity and engineering will come together Saturday and Sunday at the tenth annual Quad Cities – Davenport FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Qualifiers & FIRST LEGO League Junior (FLL Jr.) E

– Gilda’s Club is proud to present their “It’s Always Something” teen essay contest. Two, $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students impacted by cancer – whether it is themselves, a parent, sibling, other relative or friend with the diagnosis.
