Arresting works by a trio of Midwestern artists will be on display at the Quad City Arts Center through June 24, with the Rock Island venue currently showcasing a wide variety of artistic mediums: encaustics by Cindy Lesperance of Oakwood Hills, Illinois; clay sculpture by Elizabeth Shriver of West Branch, Iowa; and hand-painted textiles by Rachel Davis of Downers Grove, Illinois.

Appearing virtually in a special event made possible by Illinois Libraries Present, a pair of gifted writers will participate in the May 25 presentation An Evening with Jessamine Chan and Emily Maloney, an entertaining and informative night featuring Chan, the New York Times bestselling author of The School for Good Mothers, and Maloney, the critically lauded author of the essay collection Cost of Living.

Composed of Dave “Dixie” Collins, Dave “Shep” Shepherd, and Ramzi Ateyeh – the former two having co-founded the group nearly a quarter-century ago – the fired-up sludge-metal musicians of Weedeater headline a May 21 concert at Davenport's Raccoon Motel, the group's most recent album Goliathan described by Angry Metal Guy as “an intoxicating examination of Southern culture and arguably the most tongue-in-cheek approximation of their sludgy, stoner sound thus far delivered.”

Now celebrating their tenth year of genre-hopping performance, the tribute musicians of Have Your Cake serve as the showcased musical guests at The Tangled Wood on May 20, their concert in the Bettendorf venue's “Summer 2022 Music Lineup” boasting hits from the Cake repertoire that includes such albums as Comfort Eagle, Pressure Chief, and the Billboard chart-topper Showroom of Compassion.

Continuing the Redstone Room's concert-event programming under the "All Sweat Original Series" banner, in which local songwriters are paired up alongside outstanding area musicians to act as their own personal backing band, the Davenport venue will host three sensational headliners in its May 19 presentation: Karl Beatty, Angela Meyer, and Michael Moncada.

Purchased in honor of the Figge Art Museum's late museum trustee, board president, and museum supporter Tom Gildehaus, the visitor favorite Corn Zone will be on display at the Davenport venue through September 4, its “corn field” installation of oversize blown-glass ears carefully suspended from the museum's ceiling with rope, and designed to explore the fragility of glass, the story of corn, and contemporary issues in farming.

The iconic artist behind chart-topping albums Tapestry, Music, and Wrap Around Joy will be celebrated at Davenport's Rhythm City Casino Resort Rhythm Room on May 20 when the venue hosts vocalist Adrianne Hall's A Tribute to Carole King an hour of music featuring songs made famous by the legend behind “It's Too Late,” “I Feel the Earth Move,” “Jazzman,” “Nightingale,” and other timeless hits.

A collaboration between Davenport's Figge Art Museum and 7th-graders at the city's Creative Arts Academy of the Quad Cities, the student exhibition Family Path: How Objects Tell Our Story will enjoy a closing reception on May 19, its young artists' works inspired by the Figge's current exhibition Border Cantos / Sonic Borders, on display through June 5.

While most of the presentations in the Davenport Public Library's monthly 3rd Thursday at Hoover's Presidential Library & Museum series have focused on former president Herbert Hoover, the series will take an overdue look at the extraordinary contributions of his wife when speaker Annette B. Dunlap, on May 19, delivers her fascinating virtual program A Woman of Adventure: The Life & Times of First Lady Lou Henry Hoover.

An instantly recognizable stage presence who has served as a Las Vegas headliner for close to 20 years, the madcap comedian Carrot Top brings his prop comedy and observational humor to Davenport's Adler Theatre on May 19, his career of more than a quarter-century boasting everything from voice-over duties for the Cartoon Network to appearances on such Emmy-winning television series The Larry Sanders Show and Scrubs.
