For fans of family-friendly improv comedy, our long local nightmare is about to be over. Because as of November 11 and 12, after a three-year hiatus, ComedySportz Quad Cities finally returns to the area with opening-weekend shows at the organization's new home base: the newly refurbished Spotlight Studio located on the lower level of Moline venue the Spotlight Theatre.

Lauded by the New York Times as “effortlessly endearing” and by Variety magazine as “enormously satisfying,” The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee serves as the first theatrical production in St. Ambrose University's 2022-23 season, the show's November 10 through 13 run sure to demonstrate why composer William Finn's celebrated 2005 musical comedy received two Tony Awards and enjoyed a Broadway run of 1,136 performances.

On November 12, visitors to Davenport's German American Heritage Center are invited to travel virtually to Munich, Germany, and learn about both the origins of the Nazi Party and the history lessons we are still learning today with In the Footsteps of Hitler: A Walking Tour of Munich, an insightful and informative program taking place both in-person and via Zoom, and hosted by Kirkwood Community College's Dr. Robinson Yost and Dr. Laura Yost.

Held in honor of the centennial of the building's creation, the Moline Public Library presentation The History of Moline's LeClaire Hotel will find Moline Preservation Society President Brandon Tidwell sharing a fascinating historical overview of the hotel's history, including its esteemed inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.

Presented on November 17 as part of the Davenport Public Library's 3rd Thursday at Hoover's Presidential Library & Museum series, the virtual program Herbert Hoover & Christmas will find Park Ranger Hoehnle covering the subject from the simple holiday celebrations of Hoover's Quaker youth to his globetrotting years as a mining engineer in many lands to his years in the White House and a memorable Christmas Eve fire in 1929.

With the chart-topping, platinum-selling artist's 2020 album Country Roads, Vol. I praised by Sounds Like Nashville as "offering a something-for-everyone approach that’s just as potent as his superstar peers," singer/songwriter Granger Smith headlines a November 20 concert at Davenport's Rhythm City Casino Resort Event Center, the Nashville musician beloved for songs including his top-five hit "If The Boot Fits" and his number-one smash "Backroad Song."

Following their hugely successful presentation of Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire, as well as the franchise hits Sorcerer's Stone in 2017, Chamber of Secrets in 2018, and Prisoner of Azkaban in 2019, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra returns to Davenport's Adler Theatre on November 19 to perform live accompaniment for Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth movie smash adapted from J.K. Rowling's iconic fantasy/adventure novels.

Praised by Classic Rock Revisited for their “funky rhythm section” and their “freedom to take their dynamic guitar interplay to new heights,” the Chicago-based singer/songwriters and instrumentalists of the Steepwater Band headline a November 18 concert at Daveport's Raccoon Motel, their most recent album Turn of the Wheel lauded by Blues Rock Review as " a rocking set of Stones-inspired rock and roll."

With Blues Rock Review calling her “a captivating artist with a new take on a familiar genre” and Rock and Blues Muse labeling the musician “a gutsy and emotionally charged singer with a vocal range to die for,” award-winning blues rocker Danielle Nicole brings her Kansas City outfit to Common Chord's Redstone Room on November 20, when the Davenport crowd will be treated to the talents that made 2018's Cry No More a number-one smash on Billboard's Top Blues Albums chart.

Continuing the organization's run of exhilarating Third Sunday Jazz Workshop & Matinée Series concert events held in Bettendorf's Rivermont Collegiate, Polyrhythms presents a November 20 engagement with the talents of Frankie Fontagne & the Polyrhythmic Extravaganza, with the gifted headliner and Monmouth native joined onstage by Daniel Leahy, Corey Kendrick, Steve Grismore, Ronald Wilson, Jamie Hopkins, and Manuel Lopez III.

On November 18, a revered group of chart-topping, Grammy-winning rockers will be celebrated when Rock Island's Bally's Quad Cities presents the four piece ensemble Hotel California: The Original Eagles Tribute, an evening of beloved, iconic hits sure to include such chart-toppers as "Hotel California," "Peaceful Easy Feeling," "Best of My Love," "One of These Nights," and, of course, "Heartache Tonight."

With the concert event boasting six dazzling costume changes, exquisite musicianship, powerful vocals, and a spectacular and immersive multimedia backdrop, the touring artists of BritBeat: A Tribute to the Beatles take the stage at Mt. Carroll's Timber Lake Playhouse on November 19, allowing patrons to step into a time machine and experience a remarkable recreation of the Fab Four in concert during the fabulous 1960s.

With The Cabaret Way raving that "her voice is stunning" and the Bistro Awards' Gerry Geddes calling her breakout performance "one of the most stylish, assured, intelligent, entertaining New York cabaret debuts I have had the pleasure to witness," the gifted, versatile singer Amy Friedl Stoner headlines a November 19 concert at Maquoketa's Ohnward Fine Arts Center, blending traditional Christmas songs with contemporary seasonal favorites in her touring show Home for the Holidays.

In the Figge Art Museum's current Film at the Figge series, the Davenport venue is screening international, award-winning works that deal with death, loss, and grief in unexpected ways, and the affecting and arresting lineup continues on December 15 with It's Only the End of the World, Xavier Dolan's award-winning French-Canadian drama lauded by The Guardian as a "brilliant, stylized, and hallucinatory evocation of family dysfunction."

One of American theatre's most exciting, acclaimed, and tune-filled entertainments receives an Augustana College staging in the November 17 through 20 run of Cabaret, the legendary Kander & Ebb musical that earned a combined 12 Tony Awards for Broadway's 1966 original and 1998 revival, and that was adapted into a 1972 film classic that received eight Oscars including Best Actress for Liza Minnelli and Best Director for Bob Fosse.

A Tony-nominated delight that the New York Times described as "a high-energy ... hymn to the glories of girlishness,” the theatrical version of a beloved Reese Witherspoon comedy enjoys a November 20 Davenport engagement when the Adler Theatre hosts the national tour of Legally Blonde: The Musical, this hilarious, tune-filled treat sure to demonstrate why Broadway World called the show “a bright testimony to the power of women and importance of self-love.”

Lauded by Variety magazine as "howlingly funny" and by DC Theatre Scene as "a beloved show well regarded enough to have merited three sequels," the slapstick farce Greater Tuna enjoys a November 18 through 20 run at Scott Community College's Black Box Theatre, this beloved comedy by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard a popular hit since its debut in Austin, Texas in 1981 and its off-Broadway premiere in 1982.

As familiar as I am with the oeuvre of Martin McDonagh, I couldn't necessarily teach a course on the playwright/filmmaker's darkly comedic stage and screen works. But if I could, I would likely start with The Banshees of Inisherin, an absolutely delightful (if slightly grim) reunion for In Bruges co-stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, and one that seems to boil its creator's signature style down to its absolute essence – yet in unexpectedly tender fashion.

The story is seemingly simple: Twelve jurors gather in a room and discuss an open-and-shut murder case. One juror, however, votes “not guilty,” placing reasonable doubt in the minds of others as emotions run high. But while the Playcrafters Barn Theatre's Saturday performance of 12 Angry Jurors – Sherman L. Sergel's stage adaptation of Reginald Rose's classic drama 12 Angry Men – was simple in style, it was also polished, professional, and engaging.
