With the New York Times lauding the show as "85 minutes of sweetness, humor, and energetic high spirits," the Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical Seussical enjoys a November 26 through December 26 run of morning and matinée performances at Rock Island's Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse, the musical's recreation of beloved storybook characters and situations brought to life by Tony-winning composers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Described by Splash magazine as “unsettling and affecting” and by Chicago Theatre Review as “a truly original and unique performance,” playwright Tim Crouch's An Oak Tree makes its Quad Cities debut at Davenport venue the Mockingbird on Main November 26 through December 5, the darkly comic drama famed for one of its two performers, on a nightly basis, having neither seen nor read a word of the play in advance.

Praised by Rolling Stone as an artist who “evokes the late, great Glen Campbell” and by No Depression as “the real deal,” Montana-based singer/songwriter Roddy Arman deadlines a November 27 concert at Davenport's Raccoon Motel, her gifts inspiring Flood magazine to state, “The resolve in Arman's vocals recalls icons like Johnny Cash or Dolly Parton – both strong songwriters who were able to distill a sense of melancholy, romance, and sincerity in the necessary hurt of being human.”

Winners of the Quad-City Times' 2017 Reader's Choice Award for “Best Local Band” and one of the most successful music acts to emerge from the area in recent years, the AC/DC tribute artists of Electric Shock headline a special post-Thanksgiving concert at Davenport's Redstone, their “Back in Black Friday” event on November 26 boasting hits from a classic rock repertoire that includes Billboard chart-toppers Black Ice, Power Up, Ballbreaker, and, of course, 1980's Back in Black.

Making their fourth appearance at the Maquoketa venue just in time for the holidays, the touring sensations of Branson on the Road: Christmas Style will bring their yuletide-themed blend of bluegrass and rockabilly to the Ohnward Fine Arts Center on November 27, this song- and comedy-filled entertainment reminiscent of the Grand Old Opry and boasting venerable talents in vocalist and host Debbie Horton and multi-instrumentalist Derwin Hinson.

Local reggae and hip-hop sensations who took their high-energy act out west and currently reside in Sacramento, California, the singers, songwriters, and multi-instrumentalists of Two Peace headline a pre-Thanksgiving concert at Davenport's Redstone Room, their November 24 set acquainting – or re-acquainting – area audiences to the musical gifts of Quad Ciies natives Nick Harksen and Jacob Hahn.

With the artist's February release Room Enough, Time Enough lauded by Glide magazine as “an early candidate for one of the top roots-music albums of the year,” folk singer/songwriter David Huckfelt headlines a concert at Davenport's Raccoon Motel on November 21, his winter recording also praised by Routes & Branches as “grounded in musicianship and songcraft, even as it invites the indwelling of spirits [and] voices across time, space, and culture.”

Belfast's overall tone is child's-view fanciful – a rose-tinted (albeit mostly black-and-white) love letter to the formative people and places of Kenneth Branagh's youth – but with added dollops of painful real-world experience that make for an awkward, not entirely successful blend. The movie is oftentimes touching and funny, and I was continually engaged. I just never quite bought what its writer/director was selling.

Ready or not, here come the holidays! I had the privilege to attend the Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse’s Wednesday-night preview of their latest musical Winter Wonderland. Upon entering the theatre, I was greeted with a lovely arrangement of lighted Christmas wreaths and a cozy set design consisting of a fabulous cabin decked out in all kinds of sparkling ornaments and tinsel, compliments of scenic designer Susan Holgersson and scenic artist Trinity Filut. The surroundings absolutely got me in the holiday spirit.

Governor JB Pritzker told reporters not long ago that he was worried about the plateauing COVID-19 hospitalization rate and said he wouldn’t yet lift his statewide mask-mandate. But the governor told me something around the same time during an interview that he hasn’t yet said publicly: He’s most concerned about what may happen in January and February and upbeat about the spring and summer.

I fell hard in love with playwright Qui Nguyen's She Kills Monsters the first time I saw it at the Playcrafters Barn Theatre in the summer of 2019. We trysted again that fall at Augustana College. I was consequently happy, on Saturday, to enjoy a new rendezvous at St. Ambrose University. Director Daniel Rairdin-Hale and the show's staff, crew, and cast have assembled a singularly beautiful, big-scale-impressive production of Nguyen's play.

An acclaimed artist's award-winning, record-breaking exhibition of art made with LEGO pieces will be on display at the Muscatine Art Center through February 20 when the venue hosts Sean Kenney's Nature Connects, a fascinating and thoroughly engaging exploration into animal endangerment, the balance of ecosystems, and humankind’s relationship with nature.

Vintage, classic, and antique motorcycles of all makes and models will be on display through April 3 when Davenport's Putnam Museum & Science Center debuts its homegrown Winter Wheels: Antique Motorcycle Exhibition, in which patrons can enjoy viewing rusty gold to frame-up restorations to everything in between.

Make no mistake: Augustana College’s Macbeth doesn’t even try to skirt around the fact that it’s a tragedy. In fact, director Jennifer Popple’s production begins with a funeral. It’s an artistic funeral, certainly, in that it’s set to modern-dance movements (care of movement director Shelley Cooper), but this Scottish play is well prepared to heighten reality while remaining heartfelt in the midst of tragedy.

Best known as the lead singer for the Nashville-based rock outfit Liz Cooper & the Stampede, a group that NPR praised for delivering "a seamless balance of muted rhythmic sounds and propulsive drive that feels so good," Liz Cooper headlines a solo concert at Davenport's Raccoon Motel on November 19, the artist lauded by Rolling Stone as a talent who "pushes her strand of folk rock deep into psychedelic territory."

Lauded by Rolling Stone as an artist who delivers “hardscrabble honkytonk at its best, nodding to Johnny Cash and Buck Owens in equal measure,” country-music singer/songwriter Jeremy Pinnell headlines a November 17 concert at Davenport's Raccoon Motel, the musician's 2017 album Ties of Blood & Affection, Rolling Stone continued, “a stellar collection that could earn Pinnell comparisons to Sturgill Simpson.”

Family audiences are invited to the TaxSlayer Center from November 18 to 21 to experience the wonderful world of Disney – on Ice – in the brand-new touring sensation Mickey's Search Party, with the Moline venue transformed into an enormous skating rink and some of the studio's most beloved characters joining Mickey Mouse and friends for an unforgettable adventure.

With their repertoire boasting seven studio albums, three EPs, seven singles, and 20 music videos, the heavy-metal rockers of Ice Nine Kills play East Moline venue The Rust Belt on November 21, the musicians touring in support of their October release The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood that debuted in the top 20 of the Billboard 200.
